Apple Reportedly Turns to Its Biggest Rival to Power Its Next-Gen AI
In a move that could shake up the entire tech world, Apple is reportedly talking to its biggest rival, Google, about a potential partnership to give Siri a much-needed intelligence boost.
According to a new report from Bloomberg, the two tech giants are in early discussions about using Google’s powerful Gemini AI model to be the engine for a completely revamped Siri, which is expected to be released next year.
The proposal isn’t a simple handover, though. The idea is for Google to build a custom AI model specifically for Apple that would run directly on Apple’s own servers. This is a crucial detail because it would allow Apple to maintain its famous hardline stance on user privacy and on-device data processing.
But It’s Not a Done Deal
Before you get too excited about a Google-powered Siri, sources say the talks are in the early stages and Apple is still weighing its options. A final decision is likely still several weeks away.
Google isn’t the only company Apple is considering. To improve Siri’s capabilities, the iPhone maker has also looked at other major AI players, including Anthropic (the creators of Claude) and OpenAI (the company behind ChatGPT).
This news comes as Apple’s own internal AI development has reportedly fallen behind the competition. While the company has been working on its own solutions, its offerings have been criticized for lacking the features and performance of rival AI models. Apple now faces a major choice: partner with a competitor to quickly get the best tech, or double down on its own internal efforts.
