Don’t Get Stuck! Punjab’s Warning for Used Car Buyers

Attention, anyone buying or selling a used car in Punjab! The Punjab Safe Cities Authority (PSCA) has issued a public warning: make sure you check for any outstanding e-challans (traffic fines) before sealing the deal. If you don’t, you could face unexpected legal and financial trouble down the road.

Why You Need to Check E-Challans

It’s common practice to buy and sell used vehicles across Punjab and Pakistan. But the PSCA wants everyone to understand that if a vehicle has unpaid traffic fines, the new owner can become responsible for them. This means those old fines could prevent you from registering your newly bought car, make it difficult to sell it in the future, and even lead to legal issues.

Sellers, it’s equally important for you to transfer ownership right after the sale. This stops you from being held responsible for any tickets or issues the new buyer might create.

Easy Ways to Check for Fines

Checking for unpaid fines is simple. Just go to the official PSCA e-challan website. Enter the car’s license plate number, and you’ll see if there are any pending challans associated with it.

For even more convenience, the government recommends using the ePay Punjab mobile app, which works on both Android and iOS phones. This app offers several ways to pay, including:

  • Mobile and internet banking
  • ATMs
  • Payments at bank branches
  • Using mobile wallets and telecom agents

The PSCA strongly advises both buyers and sellers to consider e-challan verification a mandatory part of every used vehicle sale. By making sure fines are settled and ownership is properly updated, both parties can avoid future headaches and ensure a smooth transaction.
