Filed Your 2025 Taxes Already? You Might Have to Do It Again.
After weeks of leaving everyone guessing, the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has finally released the official income tax return forms for the 2025 tax year.
The goal was to make things easier this year. Through two new notifications, SRO 1561(I)/2025 and SRO 1562(I)/2025, the FBR has rolled out simpler electronic forms. These are meant for a wide range of taxpayers, including salaried people, business owners, partnerships (AOPs), and companies, with the hope of making the filing process a lot less of a headache.
But here’s where things get a little tricky.
These official forms arrived about 40 days after the FBR first shared draft versions back on July 7th. The problem is, the online filing portal, IRIS, opened for submissions shortly after those drafts were released. Many people, trying to be proactive, went ahead and filed their returns using those early versions.
This has created a lot of confusion. Now, early filers are left wondering if the return they already submitted is even valid. The big question on everyone’s mind is: “Do we have to go through the whole process again with these new, finalized forms?”
If you want to see the new forms for yourself, the FBR has made the official documents available for download. One covers the returns for salaried persons, businesses, and companies, while the other is a simplified version for other individuals.
