Got a Traffic Fine? Check Your WhatsApp, Not Your Email Anymore

Getting a traffic ticket is never good news, but the way you receive and handle it in Pakistan is getting a major modern upgrade. It’s time to stop searching through your email inbox for that e-challan—from now on, it’s coming directly to your WhatsApp.

Officials from the Safe Cities project have confirmed that the old email-based system for sending traffic fines is being phased out.

Here’s how the new process will work: When you receive a fine, a message will be sent straight to the mobile number that is registered with the excise department for your vehicle. This won’t just be a simple text alert; it will be a proper WhatsApp message.

Inside that message, you’ll find all the important details, including what the violation was and even photo evidence. This makes it easy to see exactly what you were fined for, right on your phone.

Paying the fine is also getting much simpler. The WhatsApp message will include a direct link that you can click to pay online. If you’d rather do it another way, the option to pay through the Safe Cities website will still be available.

What if you think the fine was a mistake? They’ve added a feature for that, too. A new “review button” is now on the website. You can use it to submit an online request to have your ticket reviewed by a technical team, who will check it and make corrections if necessary.

The goal behind this big change is to make the entire process faster, more direct, and a lot more convenient for citizens. No more worrying about missed emails or confusing payment steps—just a simple notification on an app that almost everyone uses every day.

So, the next time you’re on the road, just remember that a buzz from your phone might be more than just a message from a friend.
