Islamabad to Enjoy Extended Holiday Weekend in Honor of Independence Day and “Marka-e-Haq”
The city of Islamabad will observe a local holiday tomorrow, on Wednesday, August 13th. The announcement was made today by the federal capital’s administration as the nation gears up for its much-anticipated Independence Day celebrations.
A notification shared by Islamabad Deputy Commissioner Irfan Nawaz Memon on social media confirmed the news. It stated that the local holiday would be in effect across the Islamabad Capital Territory, with the exception of essential services like the MCI, CDA, ICT Administration, ICT Police, IESCO, SNGPL, and hospitals.
The holiday comes as the country is in the full swing of preparing to celebrate its 78th Independence Day. This year’s festivities are particularly charged with national pride, as they also commemorate the victory in “Marka-e-Haq,” the title given to the recent armed conflict with neighboring India.
Throughout the capital, official buildings are adorned with the national flag and festive lights. People are also showing their patriotism by decorating their cars and homes with flags. Meanwhile, markets are bustling with vendors selling a wide array of green and white merchandise, including flags, buntings, hats, and children’s clothing.
The success of Pakistan’s recent “Operation Bunyan-um-Marsoos” within the “Marka-e-Haq” conflict has added a special meaning to this year’s celebrations. In preparation for the festivities, the district administration in Islamabad also announced a ban on the sale and use of plastic horns, a common item during such events.
Under the guidance of Capital Development Authority Chairman and Chief Commissioner Muhammad Ali Randhawa, the city has been beautifully decorated. From its wide avenues to its famous landmarks, Islamabad is now radiating with the spirit of freedom and national pride.
