Lahore Cracks Down: Thousands of Bikers Ticketed for Missing Helmets
Lahore’s traffic authorities have started a huge campaign targeting motorcyclists who aren’t wearing helmets.
Officials report that a staggering number of bikers, reaching into the thousands, have been hit with fines in just the last day. Even police officers aren’t exempt, with over 50 personnel receiving tickets themselves for breaking the helmet rule. This year alone, more than 100,000 fines related to helmets have been handed out across the city. A few months back, the traffic police also gave away 3,000 free helmets as part of an effort to educate riders.
Despite the high number of fines, Lahore’s Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) states that over 90% of motorcyclists in Lahore are now consistently wearing their helmets.
