Major Relief for Farmers & Transport! Diesel Price Slashed by Over Rs 12.
There’s some big news for a lot of people starting today. The government has just announced a major price drop for high-speed diesel (HSD), but if you use petrol, you won’t see any change for now.
Effective from August 16, 2025, the price of diesel has been cut by a significant Rs. 12.84 per litre. This brings the new price down to Rs. 272.99 per litre for the next two weeks.
However, the price of petrol is staying exactly where it is, at Rs. 264.61 per litre.
Why This Matters So Much
This is a really big deal because so much of our country runs on diesel. Think about the trucks that bring vegetables and other goods to our markets, the buses we travel on, and the tractors our farmers use. A drop in the diesel price could mean lower transportation costs, which might eventually help bring down the prices of everyday essential items.
On the other hand, since petrol is mainly used in personal cars and motorcycles, its unchanged price directly affects the daily budget of countless middle-class families and commuters.
There was also good news for people using other fuels. The price of kerosene oil was reduced by Rs. 7.19, and light diesel oil got cheaper by Rs. 8.20.
This decision was made based on recommendations from the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA). It seems the change is tied to the global market, where diesel prices have recently fallen while petrol prices have remained steady or slightly increased.
