Punjab Lawmaker Pushes for TikTok Ban in New Assembly Resolution

A resolution has been put forward in the Punjab Assembly that calls for a total and permanent ban on the social media app TikTok. An opposition member, Farrukh Javed, is the one who submitted the proposal.

The resolution argues that a “mafia” on TikTok is actively promoting vulgar and indecent content, particularly through its live chat feature. It claims this is encouraging young users, including children, to get into inappropriate conversations and adopt immoral behavior. The document also states that the app is luring the younger generation with the promise of easy fame and money, which it says is a serious danger to the country’s social values. The resolution makes it clear that this kind of trend is not acceptable in an Islamic society and that tough measures are needed to safeguard the nation’s moral character.

With this in mind, the resolution urges the provincial assembly to push the federal government to completely ban TikTok and its live chat function. The goal is to protect kids and teenagers from what the resolution describes as a slide into moral decay. The assembly is now set to discuss the matter.
