Why Punjab is Making a Paid Internship Mandatory for All New Nurses.
Some great news for nursing graduates in Punjab. The provincial government is rolling out a new plan that gives them paid, hands-on training right after they finish their degrees.
Here’s the deal: If you have a BSN nursing degree, you will now go through a mandatory one-year internship. The best part? You’ll get a monthly payment during this internship that’s equal to the basic salary of a charge nurse. This financial support will be managed through the Health Foundation.
The government has a system for who gets a spot first. Graduates from government nursing colleges that are connected to teaching hospitals will be the top priority. If there are any internship positions left after that, graduates from other government nursing colleges will also get a spot.
This isn’t just a formality. The one-year internship is designed to be a serious training period where new graduates will work in different parts of the hospital. The idea is to give them a wide range of practical, real-world experience.
Ultimately, the government has made this internship a requirement to ensure that every nurse entering the workforce is fully prepared and has the practical skills needed to care for patients effectively.
